Fort Lauderdale pest control

We are Florida's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Fort Lauderdale raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Fort Lauderdale pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Fort Lauderdale Raccoon Control Tip: How To Stop Raccoons From Scavenging In Your Garbage Cans
Scavenging by wild animals is one of the main reasons why people can find wild animals living in their property or active around their home, as animals find good food sources that they can exploit in these areas. One of these main food sources is the waste that people throw away, and from vegetable peelings to leftovers, many people put a lot of their food waste directly into the garbage. The smell from such food waste is often what will first attract raccoons and other pest animals to the area, so knowing how to prevent the raccoons from getting to your garbage to scavenge there can actually help reduce your chances of having a raccoon infestation in your property.

Where To Store Your Garbage Cans
Where possible, an outbuilding such as a shed or a garage is the ideal place to store any garbage, as this will help to put a solid door between the raccoon and the garbage itself, while the extra protection will also help reduce the scent of the garbage from spreading. In some cases, this may not be possible, or you may not have sufficient outside space to do this. Another measure you can use is to buy a small portable cupboard designed to store garbage. These are usually made of a sturdy plastic material, and will complete the same function as storing garbage cans in an outbuilding, to prevent raccoons from being able to get to them.

Choosing A Suitable Garbage Can
Another smart measure that you can take to keep your garbage safe from the prying paws of raccoons is to get a garbage can that makes it difficult for the raccoons to get at the garbage bags within. Leaving garbage sat in the black bags is just asking for trouble, but a sturdy garbage can with a tightly fitting lid can make a big difference. There are some garbage cans that also have one or two clips on each side of the can, and once the lid is put in place, you can then use these to hold the lid in place to prevent the dexterous paws of the raccoon being able to pull the lid off the can.

Keeping The Garbage Cans Sealed
Despite your best efforts, in some situations the raccoons may still be able to get in to your garbage cans, and even with sealed cans raccoons are clever enough to be able to learn to remove the lid to get at the food within. While using a clip that is installed on some garbage cans is a wise move, in other situations you may want to adapt the garbage cans that you have already to prevent the raccoons from getting in. As long as your garbage can has handles on each side, a bungee cord threaded through the handle of the garbage can should be able to hold the lid tightly enough so that the raccoon cannot get at the garbage within.

Other Measures To Keep Raccoons Away
It isn't just by keeping raccoons out of the garbage that you can help reduce the problems, but there are also general measures that will help keep raccoons away from your property. Using a sturdy fence around your yard or garden, topped with either razor wire or an electric wire can prove to be an effective deterrent to stop the raccoons from getting too close to your property in the first place. Another measure that you can take is to deal with the other food sources in the area, by removing any fallen fruit and keeping pet food stores indoors and in sealed containers, and this will also help reduce the chances of raccoons coming to raid your garbage cans.
